In giving you receive

I joined a new company this summer to take on a “Figure it out” job. For those of us in the start-up world, you know the drill; few resources, no processes, and continuously building in flight. For me, it’s my sweet spot.
Yesterday I found a handwritten envelope in the mailbox among the golf magazines and holiday flyers. My initial thought was, “Our first Christmas card,” and I was mistaken. Inside I found two tickets to a movie and a handwritten note from our Co-CEO’s wife thanking me for my contribution to the company. I was speechless. A thoughtful card wishing me Happy Birthday and acknowledging my presence as a member of the team, made my day.
Many companies tout the family mantra, yet here the words have weight. A small gesture reaffirmed my desire to be here. When we are appreciated, we all win.
