A month ago, I was drowning in deadlines with upper management changing the project scope every other day. For months my days began at 7am and ended at 9:30pm. Weekends were on hold until “I finished.” In the middle of this madness, I received an email from my former boss asking me to do a “little” project for him. It would take hours that I did not have, but it would also allow me to lift myself out of the Excel and PowerPoint madness that was consuming my life. I did it.
Then I finished my “day job” assignment and returned home to collapse into a full-body meltdown caused by exhaustion.
Last week a package arrived with a thoughtful gift and a handwritten thank you note from my former boss thanking me for stepping in when he needed help. I was speechless and a bit emotional. A senior executive took the time to say, “I appreciate your work. You made a difference”. That gesture gave me a feeling of significance and renewed energy. Never let it be forgotten that sincere words of appreciation will reap far greater rewards than the threat of loss. http://nyti.ms/1mAkSr2
